check-in : recovery, brooches and warming up
Although the weather is getting warmer in Texas, I'm still adjusting from my winter hibernation mode to the faster pace of spring and summer. Unfortunately, I caught COVID-19 at the end of February, and my recovery has been slow and intentional. It really took a toll on me! Despite this setback, I was pleasantly surprised by how productive March was.
I just finished a four-week online class called "Put a Pin on It" with the talented jewelry artist Jen Moore at the Baltimore Jewelry Center. During every class, my pup Twig kept me company either on my lap or his heating pad. The class introduced me to some amazing safety pin-like designs and a stunning penannular that impressed me. It's a simple yet clever design that sparked new ideas for brooch designs.
I picked up some clear beads at Austin Creative Reuse last year and finally pulled them out to play with. They were a perfect way to be creative while conserving energy.
I'm still working on it, but you can see the progress in the picture on the bottom row. I used a plastic pull tab from a carton as the ring base and mixed clear and white seed beads to make the strands look like mycelium tentacles.
I have created a project/inspiration board for the year as a fresh start. With a few upcoming markets and a class next month, I'm feeling the hustle and bustle of spring. To learn more about these events, please visit my events page.
