Besides a small setback with the pigment I’m using for the scrimshaw on the folder plastic, this has been a week of advancements.
I’ve decided to use the black folders with white thread for the veil. It was my first idea, but I’m glad I went through the process of comparing the different options before settling on it.
Now I want to get more confident with my stitches before I start on the actual veil. The only way to get more confident is to practice, and luckily, I literally only want to do needle lace right now.
So I’m giving myself some smaller projects that let me work on tension, stitches, and design without the pressure of working directly on the final piece.
I started this one yesterday after spending a few hours making mushrooms for the final veil and then realizing I couldn’t make them in the way I had originally decided. It’s a piece of folder plastic with a hole cut out of the middle. I still have a little bit to go, but I’m looking forward to spending some more time on it this weekend.
I also just got out of a class taught by Katerina Knight about her technique for stitching petals and seeds into needle lace. The blue piece is my first sample using the first stitch she taught us.
Now I’m going to go forage in my yard for some things to thread into it.
