studio notes #15

I am official one month into my residency! I made a recap of the month on my official blog if you want to read it!

I taught a kumihimo class at Austin Creative Reuse this weekend and it was so exciting to get to share a little bit about my thought process about this series and then get to share a technique I have explored for this body of work. One of the students picked out a grocery bag that matched their nail color perfectly, so here that is along with the cord they made into a keychain.

I’ve made a little bit of headway on my veil. I’ve add more black thread but I think I will need a larger section to see if I like it. I also want to get this practice veil a little larger just to see what issues might come up as it gets bigger. I am also getting a lot of great practice in needle lace. I am taking an actual needlelace class at the end of this week that should also help me out!

And while I was at ACR this weekend I also got a few larger pieces of black plastic (the 2 compartment tray and the vhs cassette container) for this blackland prairie ring. I knolled it with the other pieces of plastic I’ve collected this past month from ACR too. This may turn into more than a stack of rings!

I have managed to protect 2 entire studio days this week to work and am looking forward to having plenty of runway to get into the flow state.
